PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Begin your career in the skilled trades with a strong foundation! This entry-level course is the required prerequisite for skilled trades specialty courses, including Electrical, HVAC, and Heavy Equipment Operator. Topics in this course include basic safety, construction math, introduction to hand and power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging, material handling, communication skills, and employability skills. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to sit for the CORE credential exam offered by the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER).

This is a FastForward Program: FastForward programs are short-term training courses for industry credentials in high-demand jobs. Funding may be available to offset the tuition cost for individuals who meet eligibility requirements. Funding is limited and therefore distributed on a first-come, first-come basis.

WCG Grant: Eligible Virginia residents may pay only one-third (1/3) of the full tuition cost. To qualify, you must meet the Virginia domicile requirements. Virginia "domicile" means you have lived in Virginia and intended to stay here indefinitely for at least one year before the date of application.

G3/FANTIC Initiatives: The G3 and FANTIC programs makes it possible for Virginians with low or modest income to pursue jobs in high-demand fields. Funding covers an additional 1/3 of the course tuition.
