The Apartment Maintenance Technician program prepares students for entry-level employment and advancement as a maintenance technician in the residential property or commercial building industry. Gain hands-on skill development in electrical, HVAC, painting, mechanical, and appliance service and repairs, as well as lock and key services and property inspection. Learn strategies for establishing and maintaining curb appeal, recreational facilities and common areas. Additional topics include safety, processing work orders, preventative maintenance schedules, repair and replacement decisions, fair housing and environmental regulation compliance, professional appearance and behavior, and communication with residents, team members and contractors. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Apartment Maintenance Technician (CAMT) credential exam offered by the National Apartment Association Education Institute (NAAEI). Students that pass the credential exam will receive their provisional certificate, and after completing one year of experience in the industry, NAAEI will grant students their full certificate.

Prospective students with limited trades experience are encouraged to complete Introduction to Construction prior to enrolling in this program.

NOTE: This is an integrated education and training (IET) for English language learners in partnership with TJACE. Students benefit from co-instruction from adult educators and industry specialists.
