Certification training consists of 112 hours and includes classroom lecture, practice and final test. Prerequisite: Two to three years experience in stick welding and have a 3G (vertical up) certification and or able to pass a 3G (vertical up) certification before taking the course. Upon successful completion of the course and passing the test, student will be A.W.S. QC7-93 certified for pipe welding.
Primary emphasis will be on stick welding, properly known as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Classes must be taken in order. Topics include the basics of pipe welding using 6010 and 7018 electrodes, welding full penetration groove welds in the 2G (vertical), 5G (horizontal fixed) and 6G (inclined) positions, and prepping and fitting techniques.
