Glass Blowing (without the furnace) (3rd-6th)

ID : 10969
« back to classes page
Have you ever seen someone take hot, molten glass and transform it into 3-D art? We’ll imitate glass blowing by creating glass-like sculptures inspired by the American glass artist Dale Chihuly. We’ll even take a field trip to a real glass blower’s studio. Using plastic cups and plates, coffee filters, an oven, and lots of markers and paints, we’ll transform your piece of art into realistic and colorful glass-like containers, chandeliers, sculptures, and mobiles. As we create, we’ll use the elements of art—shape, color, form, and design principles.

Joan Chapman has taught art in the public schools for over 10 years. As a former potter, she has years of experience sculpting with pliable materials and mixed media art experience.
