This program provides students with the knowledge and skills to administer cardiac tests in a medical office or hospital. Topics include cardiac anatomy and physiology, disease processes, taking and documenting vital signs, principles of electrocardiography, monitoring and stress testing, professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of health care. Students gain hands-on experience in EKG equipment setup, proper 12-lead placement, conducting and interpreting EKGs, applying Holter monitors and other clinical practices. Students must successfully complete ten (10) EKGs to demonstrate skill competency. Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) credential exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
