Prepare for a rewarding career as a clinical medical assistant! This program prepares students to assist physicians in a medical office, health center or hospital. Topics include preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, infection control, diagnostic testing, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of health care. Students may opt to register for an optional externship experience in a local physician’s office upon successful completion of this course; additional fees apply. Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Note: Prospective students without healthcare experience are encouraged to complete an online medical terminology course or self-paced workbook prior to course. Follow the career pathway for medical assisting, which begins with Phlebotomy Technician, continues to EKG technician and finishes with Clinical Medical Assistant. These programs result in stackable credentials that are designed to build upon the knowledge and skills of one another.
This is a G3 and Workforce Credential Grant Program: These programs are short-term training courses resulting in industry credentials for high-demand professions in our region. If you have been a Virginia resident for at least the past 12 months, you may be able to take this class for 1/3 of the full cost (Workforce Credential Grant Price) or at $0 cost if you qualify for G3.
