PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Skilled drivers are in high demand! Begin your new career supporting the supply chain and have the flexibility to work locally, regionally or nationally. Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders are qualified to operate tractor-trailers, truck and trailer combinations, dump trucks, straight trucks, ready mix trucks, and waste management trucks - essentially any commercial vehicle on the road with exception of passenger vehicles that require a CDL. Training program consists of classroom instruction, equipment and safety checks, range practice in various backing maneuvers, and on-the-road driving. Automatic and manual transmission training is available. Upon successful completion of this course, students are eligible to sit for the behind-the-wheel road exam for the Commercial Driver’s License-Class A offered by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
This program is offered in partnership with Ancora Training.
Steps to Enrollment:
1. Tuition Payment Agreement/Financial Assistance Application
- If you plan to pay the course tuition ($5400) out-of-pocket or through a Third Party, such as an employer, please email sbayker@pvcc.edu.
- To apply for financial assistance, follow this link to the FastForward Funding Application. Read the instructions, click Add to Cart and answer the questionnaire. After you complete the checkout process, you will receive an email with a secure document upload link and list of required documents to verify your application. Email sbayker@pvcc.edu with questions. Additional funding details below.
2. Ancora Training Registration
When your tuition payment agreement or financial assistance application is complete, PVCC Workforce Development staff will connect you with our instructional partner, Ancora Training.
3. Complete Enrollment Requirements Prior to Class Start Date
A member of the Ancora Training team will guide you through the required enrollment tasks for the CDL-A program.
Prior to the CDL-A class start date students must:
- Be 18 years of age and possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license issued within the United States.
- Obtain a CDL Learner's Permit.
- Pass a VA Department of Transportation physical and drug screen.
**Costs associated with these enrollment tasks are not included in the class tuition price and not covered by financial assistance. All costs are the responsibility of the student**
Funding Details:
This is a FastForward Program: FastForward programs are short-term training courses for industry credentials in high-demand jobs. Funding may be available to offset the tuition cost for individuals who meet eligibility requirements. Funding is limited and therefore distributed on a first-come, first-come basis.
WCG Grant: Eligible Virginia residents may pay only one-third (1/3) of the full tuition cost. To qualify, you must meet the Virginia domicile requirements. Virginia "domicile" means you have lived in Virginia and intended to stay here indefinitely for at least one year before the date of application.
FANTIC Initiative: The FANTIC program makes it possible for Virginians with low or modest income to pursue jobs in high-demand fields. Funding covers an additional 1/3 of the course tuition.
