Flux Core Arc Welding - Designed to instruct welders in welding safety and the Flux-Cored Arc Welding process (FCAW) for both Self-Shielded and Gas-Shielded methods. Learn fundamentals of FCAW on 1/4" and 3/8" thick mild steel using a variety of electrodes, wire feeders and power sources. Typical joint designs used in construction and shipbuilding are welded, which consist of fillet, lap, groove and butt welds.
Students must dress in work boots and fitted cotton clothing with no nylon properties.
All protective equipment will be provided for use during class.
Admissions Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age on the first day of class.
- English Language Learners (ELL/ESL): If English is not the first language, prospective students must complete a CASAS assessment with acceptable score prior to program admission. CASAS assessments can be scheduled by emailing at tjace@pvcc.edu or calling 434-961-5461. Include your first and last name, program of interest, and program start date in your email. Assessment should be completed at least one week prior to program start date. CASAS assessment is also recommended, but not required, for prospective students who feel their reading comprehension needs improvement.

This is a FastForward Program: FastForward programs are short-term training courses for industry credentials in high-demand jobs. Funding may be available to offset the tuition cost for individuals who meet eligibility requirements. Funding is limited and therefore distributed on a first-come, first-come basis.
WCG Grant: Eligible Virginia residents may pay only one-third (1/3) of the full tuition cost. To qualify, you must meet the Virginia domicile requirements. Virginia "domicile" means you have lived in Virginia and intended to stay here indefinitely for at least one year before the date of application.
G3/FANTIC Initiative: The G3 and FANTIC programs makes it possible for Virginians with low or modest income to pursue jobs in high-demand fields. Funding covers an additional 1/3 of the course tuition.
